What is the difference between a bump test and a full calibration?

Bump test (functional test): Briefly exposes the sensor to gas to verify that all alarms will trigger. It confirms that the detector is functioning but does not adjust accuracy.
Full calibration: Checks the accuracy of the gas reading by exposing the detector to a known concentration and adjusting the sensor’s response to match. This ensures precise measurements.

How often should a gas detector be bump tested and calibrated?

Testing and calibration intervals should follow the manufacturer’s instructions and the user’s site procedures. A bump test should normally be performed before use, while calibration is required according to the prescribed schedule or if the detector fails a bump test.

Which gases can Industrial Scientific monitors detect?

Available sensor options depend on the selected model and may include oxygen, combustible gases, toxic gases, carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds. The required gas configuration should be confirmed for each application.
